European Lean Educator Conference 2016

University of Buckingham

University of Buckingham will be hosting the 2016 European Lean Educator Conference at its campus in Buckingham, UK. (MK18 1AL)

We are very pleased to be hosting this year's conference and have now finalised the programme - and I cannot remember such an exciting line-up of speakers in my 30 years of attending and organising such events!

The keynote speakers include leading thinkers and innovators in their fields, there's a rich diversity of topics in the workshop sessions, speakers from across the globe and representatives from many service sectors, from broadcasting, banking, legal, healthcare to academia.

I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic learning opportunity, as well as offering great networking - and I'm certainly looking forward to catching up with many old friends.

  • Professor Darrell Mann, one of the world's foremost authorities on TRIZ and a leading consultant, will discuss Lean innovation, and the 'counter-intuitives' that challenge, and sometimes defeat, Lean thinkers. As Lean moves strongly into innovation and design, Darrell will bring examples from the great innovative companies.
  • Teresa Hattingh, prize winning lecturer in industrial engineering from Johannesburg, will explain how she enthuses engineering students about Lean. (I have personal experience of the way she has converted engineering students from all branches to become Lean advocates.)
  • Professor John Seddon of Vanguard Consulting Ltd is a well-known provocateur. Agree or disagree with his views on Lean service, you will certainly be challenged.
  • Professor Christoph Roser, who has worked with Toyota in Japan, and the author of the stimulating web site 'AllAboutLean.com' (Do take a look!), will call on his unique experiences with Toyota and others as he explains what we have learned and mis-learned about the origins of Lean.
  • Patrick Graupp, Master TWI trainer, Shingo prize winner and author, (and certainly the best trainer I have ever experienced), will be bringing us up to date on TWI developments in service, and particularly in health care.
  • Professor Pauline Found, Shingo prize winner, will share her experience in the 'Lean is Green' area, as she combines it with Kata thinking. Pauline supervised a recent excellent PhD project in the Lean green area.
  • Belinda Waldock of 'Lean on the Beach' fame, and author of a bestselling book in the Lean and Agile area, will bring her great enthusiasm to bear as she explains about how Lean can work with Agile in the strongly emerging areas of software and service.
  • Sir Anthony Seldon, Vice Chancellor of Buckingham University and a renowned education reformer will set the scene on the challenges and opportunities to education in general, and Lean in particular.
  • Professor Tony Bendell, who has been a leading figure in the development of the new ISO standard. He will be discussing the implications on Lean and Six Sigma for many Lean organisations.
